Volunteer

Parkview Neighbourhood Garden is seeking volunteers to work in our community garden. We have drop-in volunteer shifts available from April to October. We are located at 44 Parkview Ave, close to Yonge Street and Empress Avenue (North York Centre subway station).

As a community garden, we work collectively to produce food for local charities. Teams of volunteers plant, water, weed and harvest fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. A portion of the produce is made available to the public on ‘market nights’ during the summer months, providing an opportunity for volunteering without getting your hands dirty (or at least not very dirty!) There are no individual allotments and volunteers do not keep the harvest.

PNG is an organic garden, which means it is designed to be a safe space for the birds, bees and beneficial insects (known as ‘pollinators) that are an essential part of food production. No pesticides or herbicides are used, and only organic fertilizers.

No experience is necessary! Tools are supplied and training provided. Our ideal volunteer enjoys teamwork and is willing to follow prescribed techniques for the various activities. We strive for inclusivity so if you have limitations, let us know and we’ll try to find a way for you to contribute. Students, seniors, and everyone in between is welcome. Volunteers under the age of 14 must be supervised by a parent/guardian.
